Our products can be found on exploration rigs, refineries and pipeline operations streamlining processes, facilitating record-keeping, data logging, and helping you meet your regulatory compliance requirements.
What makes computers tough enough for Oil and Gas?
To withstand the harsh operating conditions present on oil and gas job sites, Daisy’s NEMA 4X rated hazardous computers are tested and approved to work in the toughest conditions. Recognized for their ability to withstand harsh environments, these ruggedized computers and displays are:
- NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Lab) Approved
- IECEx, NFPA 496 and ATEX Compliant
- Water- and weatherproof to NEMA 4X/IP66 standards
- ATEX Zone 2 and Division 2 Certified
Daisy’s hazloc PCs and displays are designed for optimal performance within oil and gas applications because of durable features and safety mechanisms, such as:
- Portable, Lightweight Enclosures
- Shatterproof Touch Screen
- Readability in Bright Sunlight
- Fanless Design and Built-in Cooling Systems to endure extreme temperatures (ranging from -40 to +65°C
Explaining the NEMA 4X Rating
As explained by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), NEMA 4X “enclosures are constructed for either indoor or outdoor use to provide a degree of protection to personnel against access to hazardous parts; to provide a degree of protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against ingress of solid foreign objects (windblown dust); to provide a degree of protection with respect to harmful effects on the equipment due to the ingress of water (rain, sleet, snow, splashing water, and hose directed water); that provides an additional level of protection against corrosion; and that will be undamaged by the external formation of ice on the enclosure”.
Explaining the Division 2 and ATEX Zone 2 Certification
Defined by the National Fire Protection Association, a Division 2 rating defines an “area where ignitable concentrations of flammable gases, vapors or liquids are not likely to exist under normal operating conditions. In this area the gas, vapor or liquids would only be present under abnormal conditions (most often leaks under abnormal conditions)”.
The ATEX directive, comprised of two European directives, defines this same environment as ATEX Zone 2. You may see rugged computers for hazardous locations that are certified for both the Division 2 and Zone 2 environments, depending on the industry and application.
